Firmographic data

Firmographic data is the set of attributes that describe a company, such as industry, size, location, and revenue, used to segment and target accounts.

Why it matters

Firmographics are how you decide which companies are worth pursuing. They let you filter a large market down to the accounts that match your Ideal Customer Profile, so reps spend time on businesses that fit rather than on whoever happens to be in the list. Without firmographic filtering, targeting is guesswork.

How it works in practice

Firmographic fields include industry or sector, employee count, revenue band, headquarters location, and company type. Teams set these as filters when they build a target list, then match contacts against them. A campaign aimed at mid-size manufacturers in Germany, for example, is a firmographic query: industry manufacturing, size 200 to 1000, country Germany.

Common mistakes

A common mistake is relying on stale firmographics, since company size and ownership change as businesses grow, merge, or get acquired. Another is filtering too tightly on a single field, which shrinks the market below what the pipeline needs. A third is treating self-reported firmographics as fact without any check.

How hubsell approaches it

hubsell matches contacts to your firmographic criteria at the moment you source them, so the account fit is confirmed against current company data rather than a stored snapshot.
