CRM and RevOps

Attribution

Attribution is the practice of assigning credit for a deal to the marketing and sales touches that contributed to it, to see what actually drives revenue.

Why it matters

Without attribution, a team cannot tell which channels and campaigns produce revenue and which just produce activity. Getting it roughly right guides where budget and effort go, so spend flows to what works. Getting it wrong, or ignoring it, means funding the loudest channel rather than the most effective one.

How it works in practice

Attribution links closed deals back to the touches along the way, such as an outbound sequence, an event, or a content download. Models differ: first-touch credits the first interaction, last-touch the final one, and multi-touch spreads credit across several. The right model depends on the sales motion, and the data quality behind it decides whether the picture is trustworthy.

Common mistakes

A common mistake is chasing a single perfect model, when every model is a simplification and directional truth is enough to act on. Another is attribution built on incomplete activity data, so the picture is wrong from the start. A third is crediting only the last touch, which ignores everything that warmed the deal up.

How hubsell approaches it

hubsell logs every outreach touch to the CRM automatically, so the activity data behind attribution is complete and the credit reflects what really happened.
